Seriously…is it June ALREADY?  Time has seriously flown by lately.  I can’t believe that this week is the last week of school!  I mean, really…didn’t we just start like…yesterday?!?!

Anywho…I’m linking up again with Farley over at Oh Boy 4th Grade for her super fun CURRENTLY linky.  And I’m already late to the party…she has over 180 link-ups already.  Eeeek!

Every night…yeah, EVERY night…Friends sends me off into Dreamland.  And since it’s late, it’s already on.  I MIGHT have the entire 10 seasons ready for a rainy day.  I MIGHT even know that it comes on at 10:00 EVERY night on Nickelodeon…

I’m so stinkin’ excited for summer.  This has been a very stressful year…for many reasons.  But, it has been a really good one, too.  I’m still ready to relax and enjoy some time with the fam.

My blogging has slowed down tremendously since our tests have finished.  Even before that, I began creating several resources for my kiddos to prepare them, and THAT took all of my time that I used to have for blogging.  So…I’m looking forward to getting back into blogging mode over the summer.  :)

I REALLY wish I could wear jeans all week since we are having to pack up everything in our rooms.  Oh well…such is life, right?  Haha

Since we bought our house in October, we have done lots of painting…but not everything.  When you buy a foreclosure…pretty much everything needs to be repainted…and I mean EVERYTHING!  From walls to ceilings to baseboards to stair rails to door frames…you name it!  We have a lot more to get done.  And clean out the garage.  And unpack lots a few boxes. (wink) And put in new floors in the bathrooms and laundry room.  And I’m probably not going to list all of it to spare you some time!

Schlitterbahn!  We bought season passes this year since we live…you know…RIGHT down the road…basically.  Ok, it’s like 20 minutes away, but not bad.  The whole family is so stoked to get to go whenever we want…and stay for how long we want…and come home when we want…and not feel like we have to be there from sun up to sun down to get our money’s worth.  We can just go back the next day and have more fun!  And with the little man, we won’t be able to stay all day.  But I don’t care.  It will be awesome!

I’m also looking forward to some reading this summer.  It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to have the time to curl up with a good book.  Maybe too long…

And…last, but not least…we are taking a family trip to Missouri to see the hubby’s sister and her family.  That will be fun.  Long road trip with a 2 1/2 year old…um…I’ll be taking along some Tylenol and ear plugs.  😉  Good thing he’s a happy little guy…otherwise I might not make it!  But we will get to go to a baseball game while we are there…and I’m a huge baseball fan, so I’m excited to get to go to a new ballpark.  Heck, we might even have to go to two…

So that’s it…my June CURRENTLY!  Be sure to head over to Oh Boy 4th Grade for more fun!

Woo hoo!  We made it to May!  It seems like just yesterday we were starting the school year.  Weird how much faster time goes by the older you get!

I’m linking up again this month with Farley over at Oh Boy 4th Grade for her May CURRENTLY.  If you click on the picture, you can see it much better.  Still haven’t quite figured out how to get it just right in the post.  (A summer project in the making!)

LISTENING…to our little man go through the DVD’s.  He is fascinated with the hundreds of DVD’s we have.  He loves just flipping through them and listening to the sound of the pages…and, of course, pulling them all out…

LOVING…that it is already May.  Stress season is O-V-E-R!!  Now we actually get to have some fun with our learning!  😉  Ok, so maybe we have fun during the rest of the year, but now we can destress and focus on getting prepared for next year in a more fun environment.

THINKING…What are you doing for Mother’s Day with your students?  I’m at a loss this year.  There are so many cute ideas for little ones, but I have a harder time coming up with projects for 4th graders.  Any suggestions?!?!?!

WANTING…I have so many things to do around the house…and I need to grade some papers since grades are due by the end of the day tomorrow…but I’m extremely unmotivated currently…

NEEDING…This year, our EOY procedures are changing.  Our new principal wants us to clean up and clean out.  That’s a good thing…but I have some old materials from when I taught second grade that I just can’t part with…which take up space…which means I have things in my room that I haven’t used in awhile, but still want to keep…so I have EXTRA stuff to pack up.  We are having some renovations done this summer, so we pretty much have to clean out EVERYTHING.  So. Much. Work.

SURPRISE…I have been following Paula’s blog for awhile now, and I have to say…I love it!  Even though I don’t teach younger kids, her ideas are so cute!  She has lots of products on TpT that I can recommend to my fellow 1st grade teacher friends.  And…she is an Aussie, so it’s interesting to see what’s going on over on the other side of the world!  😉  Click here to hop on over to her blog.

Be sure to visit Farley’s blog for more May CURRENTLY!!!  :)

Summer Writing Workshops

Whew!  Testing is OOOOOOVER!  Now…the waiting game…  😉

I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to summer.  Don’t get me wrong…I love my job…but I love my family even more, and spending the summer with them is priceless, something I look forward to every year.

Speaking of summer, what are your plans?  Are you able to totally turn off school?  I try, but it still nags at me every once in awhile.

I wanted to personally encourage you to check out Gretchen Bernabei this summer if you’ve never had the opportunity to go to one of her trainings.  She is amazing!  (No, I don’t get paid for advertising–this is just how I feel!)  If you are feeling overwhelmed or confused or even confident in your abilities to teach writing, I recommend her workshops.  She will share so many things that make you go, “Oh!  That’s good!”  She truly makes writing make sense…to both teachers and students…of all age levels.  She is the mastermind behind everything…well, almost everything ;)…that I do in my classroom involving writing.

And you know what else?  I’ll be at the San Antonio and Austin workshops!  She has asked me again to set up my table with some student work and to be there to answer questions from teachers about how I use her resources in my classroom.  I did this back in January and had a great time!  I know these workshops will be just as productive and engaging as the last!

The dates are:

  • San Antonio-June 25 & 26
  • Austin-July 28 & 29

You can register through her website here.  You can even purchase your ticket now and pay later, but hurry–the workshops fill up fast!

So go ask your principal if you can attend.  It will be money well-spent!!  I promise!!

Egg Hunt Wrap-Up

Today we had our test prep egg hunt. Well, not so much a “hunt” as a find an egg on the ground that isn’t hidden. Haha. We had such a great time. In fact, my kids told me the day went by REALLY fast today. That’s good news!

I put the eggs out as soon as I got to school this morning. This time of year (in the mornings, anyway) is usually very sticky here in Texas. My hair and makeup looked hideous wonderful by about 5 minutes in. 😉

My students grabbed a clipboard and their response papers and we headed outside, excitement hardly contained. I told them the rules beforehand, so they knew what to expect.

They got right to it! Determination took over them as they worked. The promise of amazing prizes had everything NOTHING to do with it. Yeah, right!

I gave them released test questions from the STAAR test from last year, and they really surprised me…in a good way. Many of them really tried hard and worked out the problems just like they will tomorrow.

After an hour, we went back inside. I didn’t want to burn them out the day before the test. We went over the questions quickly and called it a day. A productive day, at that!

Good luck to all of you who are testing this week. From one teacher (and mom) to another…thank you for everything you do to make a difference. 😉

See you on the other side…

Five For Friday

Happy Friday!  We made it another week…woo hoo!  Today I’m linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for her weekly linky: Five For Friday.

It’s been awhile since I linked up, but I’ve had lots going on lately and thought I’d join in the fun.

We tried letting the 2 year old help with baking a cake…

Yeah, that didn’t go so well…

photo 1

So he had to watch the hubs and I do it instead.

photo 2

He was so excited…and didn’t quite understand that it wasn’t ready to eat as soon as it was mixed.

He waited patiently impatiently while it was in the oven.

photo 3

When it was ready, he wanted to help.

photo 4

I should have taken a picture of his face when it finally came out.  Priceless!

I’ve been a little mischievous lately…

photo 3-2

Bad grammar just makes my skin crawl.  Anyone else have this syndrome?

My in-laws came down (a couple of weeks ago) bearing gifts for the little man.

Have I mentioned he LOVES Disney Cars and Planes?

photo 1-2

He was SO excited that Pappy brought him some new ones he didn’t already have.

photo 2-1

It’s hard to see, but he had the BIGGEST smile on his face!

Oh…and Pappy brought the Texas Rangers batting helmet, too!

My husband has a few harmonicas around.

Apparently he has played them some in his past…

You have to click on the link to see the video.  Little man decided to give it a try.

This afternoon was absolutely gorgeous.  So why not spend some time playing outside?

photo 4-1

My mom got him into collecting rocks from the backyard and putting them into his “buckets.”

And he decided to take them everywhere today.  Even on the slide.

photo 3-1

Today was the first time he went down his slide over and over and over again.

He’s a little timid when it comes to slides, so this was a big step!  :)

Obviously, my world often revolves around my little guy.  I love him so much!

Nothing “teachery” for my FFF today…except maybe my OCD grammar problems…

What did you do this week?  Go link up with Doodle Bug Teaching!

Or if you don’t have a blog, just hop on over and check it out!  :)
