Monday Made It September

Hey, y’all!  I know, I know.  I’ve been pretty much MIA for awhile.  It’s just that I SOOOO enjoyed my summer this year.  I planned on doing so many projects and getting more schoolwork done…BUT…that didn’t happen.  I just took some REAL time off from school and enjoyed EVERY bit of it.  So…now I’m getting my groove back.  No, I’m not Stella…but…you know…  😉

I’m linking up for the first time since probably April for Tara’s Monday Made It.  I missed out on all of the weekly MMI’s, but I’m back in business and should be linking up each month now.  Yay for Monday Made It!!

First up is our bathroom redo.  We moved into a foreclosure almost a year ago….and wow…it needed some WORK.  Like…SERIOUS work!  So much that we got burned out pretty quickly after repainting the entire upstairs in one weekend!  We did some things here and there, but we still have a long way to go.

I included the top picture so that you could see what a transformation it was from old to “new.”  It was just gross!  This is our little guy’s bathroom.  I’m totally LOVING those floors!  We put them in ourselves.  Yep!  Who knew I would become a professional DIYer, too?  I wear many hats!

I created these little guys earlier this week to use in our classroom library.  I’m SO DONE with students putting their books back into the wrong baskets.  I’m too OCD for that…ain’t nobody got time for that!  Right?  Am I right?!?!?  So these little gems go on the basket where students pull their books.  It’s such a simple idea…and I stole it from someone on IG.  I don’t remember who or I would totally give them the credit.  GENIUS!!

Of course, I HAD to use Melonheadz clipart.  She’s AH-mazing!  Love, love, LOVE her schtuff!

Ok, so my #3 is a series of things that I’ve put up on my walls this past week.  A couple of anchor charts and my Specials rotation board.  We’ll get to that in a minute.

Both of these charts will stay up in my room ALL. YEAR. LONG.  Do your kids ever “forget” how to choose a book?  Oh, and I know the NEVER forget what Independent Reading looks like!  HA!  Yeah…mine, either!  So…these are little reminders to keep them on track throughout the year.  No more excuses, kids!  Ain’t nobody got time for that, either!  :)

And…last, but not least…is my Specials rotation chart.  It’s not *quite* finished because I have to add the days of the week…and I’ll probably change the clipart to the lovely Melonheadz clipart….and I don’t really like that font in the middle….ok, I might change the WHOLE DARN THING….all but the chevron paper.  I like that.  Oh…and the clothespin needs some color, huh?  Yeah….get ready for October MMI…maybe more like Monday REDO It!

So there you have it.  My MMI for September.  I could have posted more, but I only made my MMI labels to 3.  So again, my OCD wouldn’t allow me to do any more because they would probably be different.  And I’m too lazy to redo them tonight.  Oooooh, that could be added to my October MMI!  Look at me go.  Starting a list already!

Monday Made It

I’ve been busy looking at data and working on Anchor Charts, so I only have one item to show off this month. It’s my Lesson Frames chart that I’m using.

The administrators graciously provided us a large poster frame to use, so I accepted the offer. From there, I just put some scrapbook paper on top of some butcher paper to create three spots to write in my lesson frames. I write on top of the plastic cover with a dry erase marker so that I don’t have to change things out every week. Much more manageable!

Our campus has been reading The Fundamental 5 this year, and in the book it talks about lesson frames. Lesson frames are just that…documents that frame your lessons and give students information about what they will do and how we (the teachers) will know whether or not they “got it.” Notice the “I will” and “We will” statements. Those are key in letting students know their expectations.

I really like this idea because it reminds the students of what is being taught, as well as holds them accountable for how they will be assessed–whether it is on an exit ticket, an oral response, group work, or formal assessment.

This also helps keep me on track. I tend to get off-task at times…or go in a direction that maybe isn’t so important. It also forces us to plan with the end in mind. I have to think about how I will assess the students before ever starting the lesson…which is how it should be, right?

It’s nothing really fancy, but something that works for me. I still plan on jazzing it up a bit more, but for now that’ll have to wait. I’ve for bigger fish to fry! 😉

Monday Made It Specials Rotation Schedule (A little late)

My only Made It this time around is my Specials schedule. I’ve tried numerous ways of doing this, but I decided to try something new this year…and I must say this is by far the best one yet.

Our school has A Weeks and B Weeks for Specials rotations. I get tired of students asking what week it is and watching them try to figure out where they will be spending 50 minutes of their day, so I decided to use a cookie sheet and glue pictures for both weeks in order along the edge. I drew an arrow onto a painted clothespin that can be moved each day. This takes all the guesswork out of where we will go each day. The kids love it, and so do I!

Welcome Bunting

I finally got my WELCOME bunting up on my wall. I think it turned out cute! I’m not crazy about the shininess of the laminating, but eventually the triangles will straighten out and not have as much sheen. I’m probably going to take them down over the weekend and set them under some books to flatten those puppies out! The more I look at it, the more it kills me. I’m not OCD… 😉

Just wanted to post a quick pic of some progress. I’m getting more charts up, so I will post updated classroom pics soon!

Monday Made It: Back To School Finale

Made It #1: Pencil Dispenser

So after seeing a few of these puppies on Pinterest and other blogs, I knew I just HAD to make one!! I’m already spending birthday money just to do this (my birthday isn’t until November!!). Yeah, I REALLY wanted one!! I’m more of a “simpleton,” I guess, so my pencil dispenser is just black with my signature zebra and blue ribbon across the front. This wasn’t hard to do at all. I took 2 pieces of scrapbook paper that I had from my scrapbooking days and cut it into 4 pieces (one piece for each of the front 3 sections, and then a larger piece for the bottom. I decorated the piece that goes in the front with ribbon and stickers that spelled out pencils, and then I actually just used clear tape to attach the paper to the dispenser. Since I used black paper, I was limited to the type of adhesive I could use without it being seen!

And there you have it! An awesome pencil dispenser that will make my life much easier….hopefully, anyway! :)

My second MMI is a set of clipboards that I cutsified for my team members. As a welcome back gift, I decided to cover clipboards for my team members. They aren’t completely finished because I am going to personalize them once they make their picks. Instead of me choosing who each one belongs to, I’m going to let them choose.

These were super easy, and I’m sure you have seen them before. Most of you probably even have one! I just love school supplies and thought these would be a great way to welcome my team back to school. There will be 4 of us in 4th grade this year, and two of them are new, so may the force be with us! 😉

Monday Made It: DIY In Under 5 Minutes

It’s Monday Made It time with 4th Grade Frolics!

Tired of endless Post-It notes?  Here’s your answer!  I found a picture frame that I liked, cut some scrapbook paper I had stacked in a tub, put it into the frame, and instantly had a Dry-Erase To Do List!  Easy peasy, right?

Next up is a class set of dry-erase markers WITH ERASERS!  I found some pom-poms at Dollar Tree for only $1, pulled out my hot glue gun, and glued those puppies on the ends of the markers.  No more losing erasers!
